Chocolate Date Spread
Who needs high-sugar processed Nutella when you can make your own delicious version? This Chocolate Date Spread is not only delicious and rich but your children will love it! I came up with this healthy substitute during my first pregnancy when the chocolate cravings hit hard. A great healthier version for when your kids are demanding chocolate but you want to keep their sugar levels balanced and make sure those moods are happy!
PREP: 5 mins
MAKES: 1 cup
INGREDIENTS:
1/4 cup (25g) carob powder
1/4 cup (25g) cacao powder
1/4 cup (125ml) maple syrup
3 large (90g) Medjool dates, pitted
1/4 cup (50g) hulled tahini
1 tbsp (20ml) light olive oil
2-3 tbsp filtered water or more if needed
EQUIPMENT: High-speed blender
METHOD:
- Place all ingredients in a medium-sized bowl, and using a blender, blend until a smooth consistency is reached. Alternatively, place into a small food processor, and process until smooth and creamy. - If it is too thick add an additional tablespoon of water and keep adding until desired consistency is reached.
Serving and storing leftovers: Serve immediately, store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks or freeze for up to 4 months.
Tip: Replace the tahini with other school-friendly seeds such as pumpkin and sunflower seeds.
